Not sure where to start with your vows?
Stressed about writing your vows? You’re not alone.
Even the most articulate, emotionally in-tune people can freeze up when it comes time to put their feelings into words. You want them to be meaningful, heartfelt, not too cheesy…and you don’t want to sound like Chat GPT wrote them (even if, let’s be honest, you totally asked Chat GPT for help). So - how do you start?
They don’t need to be “perfect”
Let’s just get this out of the way: vows don’t need to sound poetic or polished. They don’t need to be long. And they definitely don’t need to follow any kind of formal structure (unless that’s your thing). All they really need to be is true. Honest, personal and meaningful to you.
Here are a few writing prompts to help you get started…
The moment I knew I wanted to spend forever with you was…
You make me feel…
You’ve taught me…
I promise to love you even when…
I can’t wait to…
You don’t have to use them all - just start with one, write like no one’s reading, and see what comes up.
And remember - it’s not about being perfect - it’s about being real.
And if you’re still unsure…I’ve got you.
As your celebrant, I’ll guide you through this too. I can give you a structure to follow and feedback if you want a second pair of eyes. You don’t have to do this alone. Because your vows don’t have to be perfect. They just have to be yours.
